Cliff Swallows

Driving along highway 88 in California, I noticed a large flock of birds darting in and out of a large conglomerate of rock along the Carson river. I pulled over and scrambled down to the river’s edge. From a distance it doesn’t look like much but zoomed in I was able to get a photo of the numerous nests of Cliff Swallows built into the rock wall. untitled-007

Shrouded Horsetail Falls – 2013

Posted on Updated on

untitled-127In the month of February the setting sun hits the granite face of the ephemeral  Horsetail Falls in Yosemite and it creates what people call a ‘firefall’. Alas, last season was a low water year and clouds shrouded much of the mountain as the sun set. I’ll be heading out to Yosemite in a few weeks and hopefully the conditions will be right. But the photo above was still intriguing.

Snow Day

It’s early in February in California and last weekend we finally had some weather. I had the opportunity to host some kids from the YMCA of San Francisco in South Lake Tahoe. For many of the them it was there 1st time seeing snow and playing in it. Thanks in partnership with the BAWT and SOS Outreach Lake Tahoe these kids had a great snow day!  untitled-181-2

Islands in the Sky

Another favorite from my 2013 trip to Yellowstone & the Grand Tetons. I was with a photographer guide and he asked, “what I was going for?” in this shot. I said that it looked like “Islands in the Sky”. It gave the reflection of the mountains  a 3D texture.

Overexposed

Yesterday’s photo was the sun setting over the Tahoe Basin. I thought, I’d overexpose the photo (5 seconds) to show you the rock outcropping in the lake. The lake level is down but the water here is still relatively deep here (about 5-10 feet).

One of my favorite shots of 2014 so far. Sun setting over the North shore of Tahoe basin as seen from Sand Harbor Overlook.
