Merced – Absence of Color

Posted on Updated on

untitled-150Just for fun, I took this black & white of the Merced River. I also used my new Hoya 6-stop Neutral Density filter and I think it created an intriguing photo. More photos coming this week with that filter. I think it was worth the money spent.

Morning in Yosemite

Posted on Updated on

untitled-012I drove into Yosemite on Sunday but I was too late for the sunrise :/ but I wasn’t about to let the day go to waste. Drove down to Yosemite Valley and wandered the banks of the Merced River for the better part of the morning. In the distance you can see Bridal Veil Falls and if you look really close, you can see its reflection in the Merced.

The sun was setting, the warm colors were reflecting off the stream & water in the hot springs.

Boardwalk by Moonlight

untitled-265To make this shot interesting, I had to angle the boardwalk, the hot spring, the moon and its reflection into the frame. There’s so much to look at in the photo.

Islands in the Sky

untitled-064

Another favorite from my 2013 trip to Yellowstone & the Grand Tetons. I was with a photographer guide and he asked, “what I was going for?” in this shot. I said that it looked like “Islands in the Sky”. It gave the reflection of the mountains  a 3D texture.

Overexposed

Yesterday’s photo was the sun setting over the Tahoe Basin. I thought, I’d overexpose the photo (5 seconds) to show you the rock outcropping in the lake. The lake level is down but the water here is still relatively deep here (about 5-10 feet).

untitled-067-2

One of my favorite shots of 2014 so far. Sun setting over the North shore of Tahoe basin as seen from Sand Harbor Overlook.

If you can stand the water temperature, this is a great spot for a dip in the lake.
