Morning in Big Meadow

002Recently went backpacking for 4 days in the Tahoe Basin area. This was the 1st day we were out. We started at the trail-head Big Meadow near HWY 89 at 6:30 in the morning.

Pine cone and Forest Phlox

168I’ve seen a million pine cones on the forest floor before . It wasn’t until a recent hike that I noticed the variations in color within the cone. I thought, this was a cool shot against the phlox.

Cove at Bonsai Rock

194Switched to black and white for this photo. The water looks like a meandering stream but this is part of Lake Tahoe. Normally these boulders are underwater. We need rain soon.

051-2The restored fire lookout at Martis PEak reminds us that we need to be vigilant during the dry season. This lookout station has views of Truckee, Northstar and the Northern reaches of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

014-2Drove around to the North side of Lake Tahoe. We parked an walked up to the point. We were surprised to find this restored fire lookout station at the top.
