Month: February 2014
Shrouded Horsetail Falls – 2013
In the month of February the setting sun hits the granite face of the ephemeral Horsetail Falls in Yosemite and it creates what people call a ‘firefall’. Alas, last season was a low water year and clouds shrouded much of the mountain as the sun set. I’ll be heading out to Yosemite in a few weeks and hopefully the conditions will be right. But the photo above was still intriguing.
Here is Yosemite’s Horsetail Falls on a good water year in 2011
Snow Day
It’s early in February in California and last weekend we finally had some weather. I had the opportunity to host some kids from the YMCA of San Francisco in South Lake Tahoe. For many of the them it was there 1st time seeing snow and playing in it. Thanks in partnership with the BAWT and SOS Outreach Lake Tahoe these kids had a great snow day!
Night Memorials
World War II Memorial in the foreground and Lincoln Memorial in the distance.
Boardwalk by Moonlight
To make this shot interesting, I had to angle the boardwalk, the hot spring, the moon and its reflection into the frame. There’s so much to look at in the photo.
Islands in the Sky
Another favorite from my 2013 trip to Yellowstone & the Grand Tetons. I was with a photographer guide and he asked, “what I was going for?” in this shot. I said that it looked like “Islands in the Sky”. It gave the reflection of the mountains a 3D texture.
String Lake, Wyoming
Staying with my reflections in water theme. This is String Lake in Wyoming.
