Gruesome Find
Traveling home one afternoon, I spotted a bunch of turkey vultures on the side of the road. I pulled over to see what they fighting over, and this was my gruesome find.
Desert Tarantula
Thirty species are found in the Southwest, but the one most often seen is Aphonopelma chalcodes, commonly known as the desert tarantula. The tawny females have a leg span of about 5 inches. Males are slightly smaller, darker and more slender, and are often seen trudging determinedly across the desert on summer evenings.
Watch Children Carefully
Yes, please watch your children carefully, or the ground will swallow them up 😉
Attention
Beware of bats! Photo from my trip to Crater of the Moon, Idaho August 2013.
Halloween is Near
Halloween is this Friday, so I thought i’d post some themed photos the week. This was taken in DC last year. This lil’ guy watching over the entrance.
Go Climb a Rock
Obviously, it’s taken a long time for this tree to grow over this rock but looking at it reminded me of an old tagline “Go Climb A Rock” when I was growing up.
When the Earth Moved
Hiking in the back country near the PCT, I found this cool formation. The Tahoe basin was formed about 24 million years ago and several areas show evidence of this rise & fall of the landscape due to faulting.
Big Aspen
Loved the colors on this big aspen, yellows to orange against the sky.
Aspens & Evergreens
My weekend search for fall color was deemed a success when I found these aspens & evergreens at Sunset Lake
