View from the top
Went on a 4 day backpacking trip with eleven kids from the YMCA of San Francisco , sponsored by the Tahoe Rim Trail Association High point of the trip, peak bagging Freel Peak at 10,881ft. The view from the top was amazing!

Sunrise over Echo Peak
Smoke from the Detwiler Fire over 200+ miles south of the Tahoe Basin created a hazy moody sunrise over Echo Peak in this early morning shot.

Lupine on the river
Taylor Creek flows into Lake Tahoe on the western shore. On this morning the lupine can been seen in full bloom on the opposite side of the river.

Beach with a view
One of my favorite places in the Tahoe area is Kiva Beach. It’s a long strip of sandy beach front that you can bring your dog to. It has amazing views of Lake Tahoe and Mt Tallac. On this morning, I walked as far as I could go and got down low to catch the flow of the river as it moved into the lake. Mt Tallac can be seen in the distance.

A hike in the woods
“Keep close to Nature’s heart… and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.” ~ John Muir
Morning contrasts
I missed a week of posts because I was out backpacking with friends. It’s was great to get outside and unplug from the world around us. On this particular morning I was up early and wandering around our campsite and was able to capture these plays on light and color.

West Coast Shoreline
Beautiful West coast shoreline, with its crashing waves and rocky beaches. Calming to hear the waves going back and forth. Yet, so dangerous if you were to venture in its waters.

Super Bloom Carrizo Plains
I had heard about the Carrizo Plains a few years ago and wanted to find it. It was a Saturday and the original location I wanted to shoot at didn’t pan out so I decide to go for it. I arrived mid morning and there were already several cars in the valley. I started looking for any place that had less people. The road sign said Caliente Ridge and I followed that to the top. Looking back at the valley below, I knew I made the right decision.
Monochrome Mountains
I’m discovering that taking photos in black and white brings out amazing textures and shadowing. I went for a short snowshoe hike along the Angora Ridge in South Lake Tahoe. It was midday and the lighting was pretty harsh. I switched my camera to Monochrome and took a few shots of the Crystal Range mountains in the distance.
