Moonset & Jupiter

Moonset & Jupiter

Woke up this morning to the moon setting and Jupiter still visible just before dawn in San Francisco. Admittedly, not my best shot, I ran out of the house with the wrong lens and a low battery. But, I did enjoy watching the moon set below the horizon and all the people that pulled over to do the same. A person out for the their morning jog, just stopped and said, “WOW!”

West Fork Carson River

West Fork of the Carson River near Hope Valley along Highway 88 in California. This is one of my favorite areas to take photos. I was walking along the river at dusk when I stumbled across this tree root along the river’s edge. I thought it would add an interesting line to the shot.

Frost on the Merced River

Late morning on the Merced River near Nature Center at Happy Isle, I found frost forming along the river. At first glance they looked like jellyfish.

Flowing Water

Taken off of highway 120 in California – The daylight reflecting in the top pool as the waterfall feeds it. Lightly snow capped stones in the water and a swirl of foam made this an interesting photo.

Yosemite Valley Chapel

In the spring of 1878, the California State Commissioners of the Yosemite Grant received an application “from the Rev. J.K. McLean and others, representing an association known as the Sunday School Union, for permission to erect in the Yosemite Valley a chapel, which should be used for undenominational purposes.” The application was granted, and a “handsome, tasteful building” was erected the following year near where the present Four Mile trailhead is located today.

Last Pop at Dusk

Posted on Updated on

Point Bonita – Marin Headlands, CA. There is a moment just after the sun sets below the horizon; where the sun seems to add one final ‘pop’ before it disappears for the evening. You never know what you’re going to get when you head out. From the cloud cover above I didn’t expect much from this evening. But, in those last moments the rays lit up the sky just a touch for some contrast.

Watching the World Go By

I went out to the Marin Headlands overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. The lights of the cars commuting back and forth, the illuminating lights as darkness sets. At the Marin Headlands, the only sound is the wind as you look at the City. It seems like a world away but its only a short distance to find that peace.
